'Tron: Ares' Casts Cameron Monaghan And Sarah Desjardins
They join Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith in the Jared Leto-starrer, one of the final secured castings before the actors' strike
If there was a nickel for every time a Gotham actor secured their casting in a movie role before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, there’d be two nickels. Not a lot but it’s interesting it happened twice. Cameron Monaghan and Sarah Desjardins have been cast in Disney’s Tron: Ares, the third film of their Tron franchise.
Monaghan is probably best known for two gigs: Ian Gallagher on the Emmy-winning Showtime series Shameless, which ran for 11 seasons from 2011 to 2021, and deranged twins Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska on Fox’s Gotham from 2015 to 2019, each their own versions of the Joker even if it couldn’t be stated during the series. He most recently starred in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and has additionally been seen in films like Click and Vampire Academy. Fellow Gotham alum Anthony Carrigan also locked down the role of Rex Mason aka Metamorpho in Warner Bros. and DC Studios’s Superman: Legacy.
Desjardins is also best known for starring in a Showtime series, as Callie Sadecki in Yellowjackets, the teenage daughter who has a strained relationship with her parents Shauna, played by Melanie Lynskey and Jeff, played by Warren Kole. She also stars in the Netflix hit The Night Agent, as Maddie Redfield, the Vice President’s daughter feeling the consequences of his misdeeds.
The duo are joining Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith, and details of their roles are unknown as well. Tron: Ares stars Jared Leto as Ares, the manifestation of a newly-sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is completely unprepared. It is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. Filming was set to begin in August, but with the ongoing strikes that’s looking unlikely.
