'Wake Up Dead Man' Brings In Thomas Haden Church, Annie Hamilton As Production Begins
Another two suspects and possible victims join Daniel Craig for the next Benoit Blanc mystery
Monday confirmed the start of production on Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery beginning that day, confirming earlier reports. It will be the third Rian Johnson-written and directed murder caper starring Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, and the second to be released by Netflix. In the two weeks since the film’s title was released, just about a dozen suspects and potential victims have been assembled as the ensemble, and the latest are Thomas Haden Church and Annie Hamilton.
Initially starting out on the sitcom Wings, Thomas Haden Church’s early film credits included Tombstone and George of the Jungle, returning for the latter’s sequel when that came around. He would become an Academy Award nominee for playing Jack Cole in Sideways, and put in a memorable turn as Flint Marko aka Sandman in Spider-Man 3, reprising the role in a vocal capacity in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Other notable film credits include Idiocracy, Easy A, John Carter, Daddy’s Home, and the poorly-received Hellboy reboot. Up next, he has the first two chapters of Kevin Costner’s passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, releasing on June 28 and in August respectively. He’s currently shooting the third chapter. Hamilton meanwhile had a minor role in Marriage Story and has episodes of Hawkeye, Dickinson, and Inventing Anna to her name.
The pair joins Josh Brolin, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, and Daryl McCormack as the latest in more than half a dozen casting announcements for the film since the title was revealed.
Netflix confirmed all the castings on Monday morning, while Johnson released the first photo of Craig on set in-character, tweeting “Aaaaand we’re off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery Wake Up Dead Man - see you on the other side.” The circumstances of the inevitable murder scene to be solved are currently unknown, plot details haven't been released, and character assignments are also under wraps. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is set to be released next year.
