'Watchmen: Chapter II' Trailer Released
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has given release dates for physical and digital versions of the final part of the adaptation
DC’s year of two stories across five direct-to-video films is about to come to an end. Just before New York Comic-Con hosts its “Bats in Translation: Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League and Batman Azteca: Choque De Imperios” panel, exploring DC’s 2025 slate of non-theatrical films that also happen to be internationally-flavored, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released the first trailer for its final DC film of 2024, Watchmen: Chapter II. The film completes the animated adaptation of the groundbreaking twelve-issue comic series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, released from September 1986 to October 1987, following Chapter I’s release in August. Release dates have also been given, with the digital being on November 26 and the physical 4K UHD and Blu-ray coming on December 3, shortening the gap by a week compared to its predecessor.
The synopsis describes that its “outlawed superheroes grapple with their personal lives and each other while racing the clock to solve a deepening mystery connected to an impending nuclear war between the United States and Russia.” Special features were also revealed, but not detailed. They include “The Art of Adaptation: Building to the Final Act”, six final chapters of “Dave Gibbons and Watchmen”, and “Designing Watchmen”.
The cast features Matthew Rhys as the Dan Dreiberg Nite Owl, Katee Sackhoff as the Laurie Juspeczyk Silk Spectre, Titus Welliver as Walter Kovacs aka Rorschach, Joker mainstay Troy Baker as Adrian Veidt aka Ozymandias, Adrienne Barbeau as Laurie’s mother Sally, the previous Silk Spectre, Michael Cerveris as Jonathan Osterman aka Dr. Manhattan, Zehra Fazal as Hira Manish and a newscaster, Phil Fondacaro as Tom Ryan aka Big Figure, John Marshall Jones as Hooded Justice, Yuri Lowenthal as Seymour, as well as a Knot Top and a bully, Geoff Pierson as the Hollis Mason Nite Owl and a prison guard, Kari Wahlgren as Sylvia Kovacs, Max Koch as Bernard, President Nixon, and Lawrence Andrews, Jason Spisak as Doug Roth and Hector Godfrey, Rick D. Wasserman as Edward Blake, The Comedian, Phil LaMarr as Comic Book Narrator, Bernie, and a male citizen and minor roles for Grey DeLisle and Long Nguyen.
Like Chapter I, Watchmen: Chapter II is produced and directed by Brandon Vietti from an adaptation by DC and Marvel comics vet and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. Jim Krieg and Cindy Rago are producers, Gibbons a consulting producer and Sam Register, Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are executive producers. A digital combo with the first film will also be made available on November 26. The comic was previously adapted into the 2009 live action film directed by Zack Snyder and the 2019 HBO miniseries continuation created by Damon Lindelof.
