'Wizards' Sequel Series Goes Beyond Waverly Place For Official Title
Oh I’m sure Max is out there Mad getting Beyond Waverly Place Thunderdome
It was quite a busy Disney Upfronts for Selena Gomez who not only unveiled the teaser and premiere date for her Hulu series Only Murders in the Building with co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short (August 27), but brought a little extra magic for a company that also revealed the title and premiere date of Marvel Studios’s Agatha All Along (September 18). The upcoming Wizards of Waverly Place sequel series she’s executive producing for Disney Channel and Disney+ has revealed its title to be Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
Frankly it’s a great title and really sets the mood. Definitely better than just being plain “Wizards”. Between the Tales of Arcadia series and the 1977 Ralph Bakshi film it never would’ve worked. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place stars David Henrie reprising his role as Justin Russo, who has retreated to a normal mortal life with his wife Giada, played by Mimi Gianopulos, and sons Roman and Milo, played by Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko, following a particularly traumatic event. Billie, played by Janice LeAnn Brown, does not arrive at his doorstep seeking help alone, as it’s Alex, played once again by Gomez, who brings her. Justin must dust off his wizarding skills to mentor again and juggle his everyday responsibilities while ensuring the future for the Wizard World. Like Matenko’s casting being revealed at greenlight, this stage of development brings the reveal that Taylor Cora has been cast in the series regular role of Winter, described as “Billie’s bubbly, quirky and oversharing best friend.” Yeah, sounds a bit like Alex’s best friend from the original series Harper Finkle, played by Jennifer Stone, but ya gotta have friends, right? 'Wizards Of Waverly Place' Sequel Series Officially Greenlit At Disney Channel
There’s magic being made at Disney Branded Television again. The sequel series for Wizards of Waverly Place has been greenlit for Disney Channel and Disney+. Production on the new series, which is still working under the title of Wizards, begins in April in Los Angeles. As reported in January at the announcement of the pilot, the series will star and be …
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas who are coming off of Raven’s Home, another Disney Channel sequel series, write and executive produce with Gary Marsh, Gomez, and Henrie. It was recently found, thanks to newly released pictures that Beyond Waverly Place has been reusing Raven’s Home sets, and that’s because production ended after six seasons. More on that in a bit. Andy Fickman who directed and executive produced the pilot will direct multiple episodes. The day before the upfront, Henrie posted a photo of him, Brown, and Thiele with their (redacted) scripts in front of them, captioned “Day 1 let’s make some more 🪄!!! Can’t wait for you to see what we’re up to!”. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will premiere this fall on Disney Channel, (Disney+ rollout specifics TBA) so expect it in time for Halloween.
