AMC Brings 'Snowpiercer' Final Shipment To This Summer
The rescue from TNT was originally announced to premiere in early 2025. Dates for the previous seasons have also been announced
All aboard! Reentry into the apocalypse has been significantly fast-tracked as Snowpiercer, rescued from TNT, has had the premiere of its fourth and final season moved up from early 2025. It will now premiere on new home AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, July 21 at 9 pm ET/PT, the network announced Tuesday.
As previously announced, the series’s first three seasons will be available exclusively on AMC+, and with the premiere of the final season moved up so substantially, those seasons will make it to the service comfortably in time. Not all together, but not too far apart either. Seasons 1 and 2 will be available beginning Saturday, June 1, while the third season will debut on the service Saturday, June 8. Snowpiercer is based on the 2013 film of the same name directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton which itself was an adaptation of the Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette graphic novel.
The series’s premise goes that 2026 is more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, and the remnants of humanity inhabit a perpetually moving train, containing 1001 cars, across the globe. It features the tackling of class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival. The third season finale created a schism on the train with Melanie Cavill, played by Jennifer Connelly, taking charge of the Eternal Engine and those passengers who chose to stay on Snowpiercer for “relative safety”, while Andre Layton, played by Daveed Diggs, leads the others on Big Alice who chose to explore the mysterious outside world of New Eden. The series also stars the likes of Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, and Mike O’Malley, just a few of a large ensemble brought on by the population of the tight single location of the train. Back when season 4 was in production, Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov were confirmed to be part of the cast, but in what capacities had yet to be confirmed.
“We can’t wait to share the final season of this thrill ride of a series with this vibrant fan community and new viewers starting July 21 on AMC and AMC+, with plenty of time built in to catch up on previous seasons on a variety of on demand platforms and AMC+ before then,” said Courtney Thomasma, the Executive Vice President of Streaming for AMC Networks. “Snowpiercer is an entertaining drama with a great cast and seeing how the ride ends will be a highlight of summer viewing worthy of a 1001-car train.”
Snowpiercer Season 4 is executive produced by Lost, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Helstrom Paul Zbyszewski, Christoph Schrewe; Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Alissa Bachner through Tomorrow Studios; Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt and Scott Derrickson, along with the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. In other rescued TNet show news, Roku confirmed they are not proceeding with a third season of Chad, having released the long-completed second season on January 19. Originally set to premiere April 11, 2022, the second season was at first delayed until July of that same year. Then, after all the promos ran and was raring to go TBS announced that it had cancelled the show just hours before the season was finally set to premiere and had no plans to air it. A victim of Warner Bros. Discovery’s writeoffs, it was shopped and picked up by Roku in July 2022. Creator and star Nasim Pedrad said in a statement “Eight years, three networks, one great show that I’m deeply proud of. Excited for what comes next.”
In addition, AMC itself wasn’t completely innocent of such practices. One of their victims, the Courtney B. Vance-starring 61st Street will premiere its second season on their rescuer network The CW on Monday, July 22 at 9 PM.
