'Beetlejuice' Sequel Summons Its Official Title With First Poster
The film starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega is still set for its September release
It’s been a bit since there’s been news about the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel since they were able to resume work on it once the deals were achieved. They were so notoriously close to completion all the casting news was probably out already. On Thursday, the Warner Bros. film released its first poster, in turn revealing its title for the first time.
The long-awaited film is titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, cleverly on the verge of summoning the mischievous ghost or in fact achieving so if talking about the two films together. The poster also revealed its keeping its originally-announced September 6 release date. According to exhibitors, its release was nearly pushed off, or at least briefly considered during the peak of the work stoppage. However, director Tim Burton managed to avert such by getting some of the shots he needed at the last minute when work properly resumed. The desire to hold onto it was not only to not have to lose any more 2024 dates, but previous success in the horror genre the studio has had with the It and The Nun films in that weekend.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sees the return of Michael Keaton as the ghost with the most, along with Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. A third generation of the family comes in the form of Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter Astrid. Monica Bellucci is playing Betelgeuse’s wife, while Willem Dafoe plays a ghost detective who had been an action movie star while alive. Roles for Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti and Burn Gorman haven’t been disclosed. Not only does Ortega follow Burton having worked together on their acclaimed The Addams Family series Wednesday, but the film is written by Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who are also best known as the developers of Smallville. The screenplay is based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith. Check out the full poster below.
