'New World Order' Is Taken Out, It's A 'Brave New World' For Captain America
The fourth film is the first with the mantle held by Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson
Captain America: New World Order has taken a brave step and been retitled to Captain America: Brave New World. Marvel Studios announced the title change Monday morning across social media with a photo, the first photo to be officially released for the film. It features star Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford.
Mackie plays Sam Wilson, the former Falcon and best 2010s friend of the previous Captain America, Steve Rogers, who bequeathed the shield to him at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but it took the entirety of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series to truly feel worthy. Ford is taking on the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who was played in previous MCU appearances by William Hurt until his death last year. Having ascended from General to Secretary of State by Captain America: Civil War, he will have taken office as President by Brave New World.
Marvel originally announced at last July’s San Diego Comic-Con that the fourth Captain America film would be subtitled “New World Order”, with a May 3, 2024 release date. The film also stars Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson, reprising their roles of Thunderbolt’s daughter Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk, the latter now fully transformed into The Leader. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, return as presumed next Falcon Joaquin Torres and supersoldier Isaiah Bradley. Shira Haas is appearing as Sabra, Seth Rollins is playing a member of the Serpent Society, and Xosha Roquemore has an undisclosed role.
Captain America: Brave New World is directed by The Cloverfield Paradox director Julius Onah and co-written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcolm Spellman. It is still set for that May 3, 2024 release.
