'Elle' Gets Stuck In The Middle Of Casting Five Recurrers
Five recurrers? That’s more than four! A true rev-elle-ation for Prime Video's 'Legally Blonde' prequel series
It’s been a bit since we’ve gotten a casting update from Prime Video’s Legally Blonde prequel series Elle, starring Lexi Minetree as the young Elle Woods. Well we’ve got a five-spot of recurrers to share, with Lisa Yamada, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder and Kayla Maisonet.
Information on Harder’s role is unavailable, however that’s not the case for the other four. Wepper is playing Ms. Burke, Elle’s chemistry teacher and thethe high school cheer team’s choreographer. Burtka is Chad, neighbor to the Woods family, while Maisonet and Yamada play Tiffany and Amber, Bel Air high school friends in Elle’s social circle.
Amy Pietz Joins 'Legally Blonde' Prequel Series 'Elle'
Elle, Prime Video’s upcoming Legally Blonde sequel series has substantially built an orbit of students in the high school world of Elle Woods. With the series now in production, drips of the school staff are starting to escape. That starts with Amy Pietz, who in a series regular capacity will play Donna, the school’s secretary.
If you’re like me, the two names or faces you might most be familiar with are Burtka and Maisonet. The former played Scooter, Lily Aldrin’s high school boyfriend in seven episodes of How I Met Your Mother, which starred his husband Neil Patrick Harris. He also played Mr. Willums in the The Carnivorous Carnival episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events, where Harris was Count Olaf. His other television credits include American Horror Story: Freak Show, The West Wing and Uncoupled. Maisonet is likely best known for her role as Georgie Diaz, the second-oldest of seven siblings in Disney Channel’s Stuck in the Middle, the same show that gave Jenna Ortega and Arianna Greenblatt their biggest roles to that point. And it has its own HIMYM connections as Joe Nieves, Carl the Bartender, played their father. She also recurred on ABC’s Speechless and made recent appearances on The Rookie and NCIS. Harder recently appeared in the film Ms Match alongside, and in guest-starring roles in Virgin River and Cruel Summer. Yamada comes from having been a series regular on the Freeform series and currently stars as Luna on The Bold and the Beautiful. Other anppearances include Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere and The CW’s All American. She had a supporting role in the SXSW-premiering I Wish You All The Best last year.
They join Minetree as well as Chandler Kinney as upperclassman Kimberly, Gabrielle Policano as Elle’s opposite Liz, and Jacob Moskovitz as star athlete Miles who is crushing on Elle, Zac Looker as classmate, sparring partner, and social justice rebel Dustin; Jessica Belkin as best friend Madison; and Logan Shroyer as Madison’s cousin and Elle’s crush Josh. Back home, there’s June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott as her parents Eva and Wyatt. There’s also Amy Pietz as no-nonsense school secretary Donna.
Creator Laura Kittrell, whose work includes High School and Insecure, is co-showrunner and executive producer of Elle alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, who originated the role of Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde films, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore is directing the first two episodes and the series is produced by Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon’s company, and Amazon MGM Studios.
As this is being written, it’s Upfronts week and Amazon news is bursting out, and I will be covering as much as I’m interested in.
