FX Releases 'Alien: Earth' Teaser After Previous Theater Exclusivity
The series is confirmed to be releasing in 2025
Disney’s ownership of the Alien franchise is riding high with the box office success of the latest theatrical film Alien: Romulus, which grossed $225 million globally against its $80 million budget in its first two weeks as of last week. Cineplex theatergoers got to witness the teaser for the next step of the franchise, a full blown television series Alien: Earth, and now that teaser has been released to the public.
Coming to Hulu under FX branding next year, the teaser is very brief, starting out with a vision of Earth before zooming out and finding it reflected in the head of a very hungry Xenomorph, with dark sharp teeth and lips dripping. The official logline reads “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat.”
Alien: Earth takes place about 70 years in the future, and 30 years prior to the events of the original Ridley Scott-directed film. It also stars Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El, which seems to indicate either a large crew or this list includes recurring actors and not just regulars. Alien: Earth was originally announced on that Disney Investor Day in 2020 that keeps coming up, with its title being revealed when filming wrapped in mid-July this year. It is designed to be an ongoing, multi-season series according to FX boss John Landgraf, who previously described the show as a “big imaginative reimagining” of the franchise, comparing it it to Hawley’s work on the network’s Fargo anthology series.
Meanwhile, original film star Sigourney Weaver recently confirmed her previously-reported casting in the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu.
