It’s A Terrific Day To Film 'Superman' In Cleveland
James Gunn’s first DC Studios film inaugurating the new DC Universe stars David Corenswet and releases in July 2025
Filming for James Gunn’s Superman has officially come to downtown Cleveland to make it its Metropolis, after starting production in Atlanta and even making its way through Norway. Monday’s scenes were shot on a closed section of Superior Avenue following a transformation that had been prepared over days before.
Some of the photos featured David Corenswet, who’s playing Clark Kent aka Superman, arriving to set dressed in a black cape. Same for Rachel Brosnahan, his Lois Lane, whose arrival was under the cover of umbrellas, protecting her from a prying public in pursuit of their own pics. Gunn appeared at about 9:30 AM reviewing the scene with crew members and military-dressed background actors. One rehearsal took place on a futuristic-style staircase connected to a platform draped in a blue screen, presumably intended for CGI enhancement.
While there are photos of Brosnahan as Lois exiting quite the peculiar vehicle and boss Perry White, played by Wendell Pierce, following close behind, as well as Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult with crew strewn in there, secondmost of the photos most recognizably featured Gunn. The most photos featured Corenswet suited up as Superman alongside Twilight and X-Men: First Class’s Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific, who is a skilled combatant and a brilliant inventor and tactician with his otherworldly intellect. The “Fair Play” on the sleeve of the jacket is the catchphrase of the original Mister Terrific, Terry Sloane, and thus pays tribute. Holt and Supes seem to be surveying following major damage characterized by prop rubble and wrecked cars. It is the first time seeing Corenswet in natural daylight as his official debut photo was indoors and night-set, or at least dark-set.
Gathegi’s casting was announced alongside Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. They were the first castings to be revealed after Corenswet and Brosnahan. The film’s casting, in addition to Pierce and Hoult includes a Daily Planet that also employs Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant and Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troupe, Neva Howell and Pruitt Taylor Vince home in Smallville as Ma and Pa Martha and Jonathan Kent, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho aka Rex Mason, María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica, The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher with Milly Alcock likelier and likelier to debut as Supergirl here. Superman is the first film in the “Gods & Monsters” chapter of the new DC Universe, set for release on July 11, 2025.

Such an accurate shooting area- Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster grew up in Cleveland and originally modeled Metropolis at least in part on it.
