James Gunn Shares First Image Of 'Superman' David Corenswet
It’s a real livewire time for the big blue Boy Scout
It’s a boot! It’s two boots and a suit! It’s Superman! Hot off of celebrating release anniversaries for the second and third Guardians of the Galaxy movies (it’s not early May without doing so for many Marvel movies), James Gunn is getting fans ready for his biggest current project: his Superman movie he’s writing, directing and executive producing as co-CEO of DC Studios, set for release on July 11, 2025. Monday, he gave a first look on his Threads account at his star David Corenswet suited up as the Man of Steel.
Gunn was quick to give image credit, stating in a second threaded tweet “The above photo was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera.” presumably to dispel any AI suspicions. The House of El crest, whose design was is darkened by damage, and even the signature golden belt and red trunks are visible. Outside his I’m-not-a-window-type-expert windows there’s his threat, some pink…thing (looks like a phantasm-esque dragon with a shell on its back) shooting some laser from its belly. Who knows whether that’s just for the art of the picture, or it’s implementing something from the concept art that will or will not make it to the film, but it sure is something.
Corenswet still has a blockbuster to come before his first outing as the Man of Steel hits theaters, as the Twister sequel Twisters releases this July 19. His character still isn’t known, as can be said for most others, but he co-stars alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney and Kiernan Shipka, among others. He broke out with two Ryan Murphy Netflix series: The Politician and Hollywood. before starring in Pearl opposite Mia Goth. He has appeared in the HBO series We Own This City, with the Apple series Lady in the Lake still upcoming.
Corenswet’s Superman co-stars include Neva Howell and Pruitt Taylor Vince as his Ma and Pa Martha and Jonathan Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho aka Rex Mason, María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica, The Engineer, and a clique of villains with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. The DC Studios film is the first in the “Gods & Monsters” chapter, with no other announced project in the slate having a specific release date.
