'Superman: Legacy' Casts Jimmy Olsen And Eve Teschmacher
In the new DCU, Superman will have his pal once again in the 'The Righteous Gemstones' star, and Lex Luthor will have his right-hand woman
The castings just keep coming. While Fantastic Four has a single maybe, James Gunn’s new DC Universe starter Superman: Legacy is now up to four cast members announced post-strike. Today is another double, with Skyler Gisondo taking on Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio cast as Eve Teschmacher.
Gisondo has been acting since a very young age, voicing B-Dawg in the Air Buddies movies and appearing in comedies like Walk Hard, Four Christmases and The Three Stooges, before appearing as Gwen Stacy’s brother Howard in the The Amazing Spider-Man films. He would go on to 2015’s Vacation and then Booksmart and Licorice Pizza. After guest roles on shows both well-known and not, his first major TV role was as a series regular on The Bill Engvall Show, which also starred Jennifer Lawrence as his sister. He also played the younger version of James Roday (Rodriguez)’s Shawn in 10 episodes of Psych before becoming known as Eric Bemis on Santa Clarita Diet and Gideon Gemstone on The Righteous Gemstones. He also has main roles as the voice of Dale on Fairfax and as Sam Knowlston on The Resort.
Sampaio is a Portuguese actress and model known for her Victoria’s Secret work. As far as TV and film, she most recently starred alongside Monica Barbaro and Diego Boneta in Paramount+’s romantic comedy film At Midnight. She also appeared in the dramedy The Clapper with Ed Helms and Amanda Seyfried and Showtime’s recently-ended series Billions.
Interestingly, neither character originates from the comics. Jimmy Olsen, a Daily Planet photographer and by which he becomes Superman’s pal, began in the The Adventures of Superman radio show, played by Jackie Kelk and Jack Grimes. A nameless character in Action Comics #6 (November 1938) was retroactively made Olsen once the character got popular. His subsequent portrayers include Jack Larson in the Adventures of Superman TV series, Mehcad Brooks in the Arrowverse, Michael Landes and Justin Whalin in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Aaron Ashmore in Smallville, and voiced by David Kaufman in Superman: The Animated Series and Ishmael Sahid in My Adventures with Superman, which premiered this year. You may remember Marc McClure as Jimmy’s portrayer from the Christopher Reeve films and the Helen Slater-starring Supergirl. This is where Eve Teschmacher debuted, played by Valerie Perrine. She was later used as influence for Smallville’s Tess Mercer and played by Andrea Brooks in the Supergirl Arrowverse series.
Gunn, who is writing and directing the film made in the studio where he is co-CEO, publicly hyped them on his Instagram, saying “After auditioning hundreds of folks for both of these roles, we finally found the perfect fits with both skylergisondo and sarasampaio! Can’t wait for you guys to see them in action the summer of ‘25!” followed by hashtags for the film and characters.
Superman: Legacy is set to kick off the new DC Universe with its release on July 11, 2025. Prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, he was able to announce the leads, David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent aka Superman and Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho aka Rex Mason. Since the strikes, María Gabriela De Faría was announced cast as Angela Spica, The Engineer, while Nicholas Hoult was finally confirmed as Lex Luthor.
