James Gunn Quells Shelving Fears Of 'Doom Patrol' Final Episodes
The feeling seems to have started from an Instagram post by series star Michelle Gomez
Rest assured, Doom Patrol will still be finishing out its final episodes. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed on Threads that the series’s second half of its fourth and final season has not fallen to further Warner Bros. Discovery tax shenanigans that were promised to be over at the start of the year.
The worry seemed to have stemmed from a post on Instagram eary in the weelendby Michelle Gomez, who has starred as Laura De Mille aka former Brotherhood of Evil member Madame Rouge since season 3. She lamented I have a sinking feeling the final installment of Doom Patrol was binned. If this really is the case then get ready for a huge dump of my own. #bummer #we #are #doomed #sadface I mean seriously how can you bin a show with an Oscar winner @brendan__fraser and talking butts?? sheesh” It’s not like her fear is unfounded, after all the devastation happened less than a year ago. She’s allowed to not trust executives’ claims. The highest-profile affected title was of course Batgirl, not only a DC title but also starred Brendan Fraser, Doom Patrol’s Cliff Steele aka Robotman, as Ted Carson aka Firefly.
Gomez, who’s also known for her roles as Missy on Doctor Who and both Lilith/Madam Satan and Mary Wardwell on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, has her fans, who therefore would get worried with her. Threads user mr_dark_xh replied to a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set photo of Karen Gillan and Gunn answered. He was very much emerging from a Superman: Legacy and Creature Commandos work bubble and not focused on day-to-day TV scheduling so he was slightly confused. He did say he “can’t imagine a world where completed episodes are not going to be released”. Soon enough, he followed up quoting the original post with a hard confirmation that the episodes hadn’t been shelved, that a premiere date just hadn’t been made public.
Such did get back to Gomez, who stated in a follow-up Instagram post “News just in. Seems we are not binned!! After all that hard work from a phenomenal cast n crew I’m happy to hear the second half of season 4 will be airing soon. Will circle back with a save the date asap. That’s a victory for The Doomies!”
Doom Patrol premiered in 2019 on DC Universe, being shared between it and HBO Max for its second season and exclusive to the latter, which became simply Max in May, for its final two seasons. The fourth season’s December 8 premiere was announced at New York Comic Con in October, and the decision of it being the final, confirmed in January, may have already happened by then, as it preceded Gunn’s arrival. In addition to Gomez and Fraser, the series stars Matt Bomer as Larry Trainor aka Negative Man, April Bowlby as Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman, Diane Guerrero as the Crazy Jane persona of Kay Challis played by Skye Roberts, and Joivan Wade as Victor Stone aka Cyborg.
