Kate Micucci, Current Main Voice Of 'Scooby-Doo'’s Velma, Reveals Lung Cancer Surgery
The actress and comedian is best known as half of the Garfunkel and Oates duo with Riki Lindhome
Actress and comedian Kate Micucci, half of comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates and known for her appearances in such series as their own on IFC as well as Scrubs and Raising Hope, has revealed she’s been diagnosed with lung cancer and undergone surgery to remove it.
On a video on TikTok she called a “SickTok” from the hospital, still in her robes because it was that kind of update, the 43-year-old said “I had lung cancer surgery yesterday. It’s really weird because I’ve never smoked a cigarette in my life so uh, you know, it was a surprise. But I guess it happens and so the greatest news is they caught it early, they got it out — I’m all good.” She would add “It’s been a little bit of a trip. I’ll probably be moving slow for a few weeks, but then I’ll be back at it.” She grew quite self-aware about how much she’d been talking and pinned it on the administered drugs she was under.
Aside from her role as Stephanie Gooch in Scrubs’s eighth season or the dozens of appearances as Shelley on Raising Hope, she also recurred as Lucy, one of Raj’s love interests on The Big Bang Theory, appearing in its sixth, seventh, and tenth seasons. She also appeared in the same episode of Supergirl as one of Sean Astin's two. She also has a litany of animated voice roles, including with Astin as Irma in the first Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series but most prominently as the current main voice of Velma Dinkley in the Scooby-Doo franchise since Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! premiered in 2015, voicing her in every production since but Scoob!, Velma, and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, the latter of which had Micucci as DC villain Clayface. Her other major roles include Sadie Miller on Steven Universe and Steven Universe Future, Sarah Murphy on Milo Murphy’s Law and Webby Vanderquack in the DuckTales reboot. Here’s to well wishes and a fast recovery.
