'Legend Of Korra' Animators Studio Mir Joins 'The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender'
Is it a Mir coincidence? Most probably not
It seems in these last 8 months of making the first animated Avatar: The Last Airbender movie The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, and of course Avatar Studios are calling on an old friend to supplement the work already done by Flying Bark Productions. Studio Mir, the animation studio founded by Jae-Myung Yu, a former animator on the original series, has announced its partnership on the film.
“We’re excited to be working with the team at Studio Mir on The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender. Their artistry and deep connection to the Avatar universe make them a great partner as we bring this new story to life,” said Traci Balthazor, the Executive Vice President of Physical Production at Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies. The studio, as described in the announcement on its English website, aims to showcase its strengths in direction and animation on a global stage—pursuing excellence through originality and technical expertise in high-quality content and are honored to take part. The film takes place in the Gaang’s young adult years after the original series.

Studio Mir has become one of the most reliable in the industry, with its first assignment being the original series’s first spinoff, The Legend of Korra. Further work including Voltron: Legendary Defender, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Skull Island, My Adventures with Superman and X-Men '97, with Netflix using them for their animated The Witcher spinoff films and Warner Bros. using them for different capacities on their direct-to-video fare including 6 DC films, two Mortal Kombat films and Babylon 5: The Road Home.
The majority of the The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender cast was announced at last year’s CinemaCon, K-Pop star Eric Nam as Aang, Dark Winds star Jessica Matten as Katara, American Ghosts star Roman Zaragoza as Sokka, and Nickelodeon legend Dionne Quan as Toph, with Dave Bautista as the villain. This year, the recently-reported casting of Steven Yeun, who had been on both Korra and Legendary Defender was confirmed, but not his role. Directed by Lauren Montgomery and co-directed by William Mata, it is produced by Maryann Garger, Latifa Ouaou, and original series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino. The film is set for release on January 30, 2026.
Nickelodeon Orders 'Avatar: Seven Havens', First Series From Avatar Studios
It’s a very happy anniversary for Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. On the eve of its 20th anniversary, the network has announced that the franchise’s third full-length animated series, Avatar: Seven Havens, has not only been greenlit but is currently in production.
