'Superman' Actress María Gabriela de Faría Welcomes Best Friend Sol Rodriguez To DC Universe
They’re the two best friends that anyone could have and now they’re together gunning for superheroes
It may still be a coincidence, but they couldn’t be happier for it. Actress María Gabriela de Faría, set to debut as Angela Spica aka The Engineer in James Gunn’s Superman movie from Warner Bros. and DC Studios next July, is celebrating Sol Rodriguez’s casting as Sasha Boudreaux in season 2 of Gunn’s Max series Peacemaker. As it turns out, they’re best friends.
In addition to screaming “FUCKING FINALLY!” on Rodriguez’s post about the casting, de Faría made her own, with several pictures of them hanging out. She wrote “WELCOME TO THE DCU!!!!!! solrodr and I have been friends since we were 18 years old. We never would’ve imagined that we would be sharing something like this. Not in our wildest dreams. But we have never given up. And we’ve worked very hard. And we’ve wiped each other’s tears. And we’ve helped each other self tape countless times. And here we are. Living a f*cking dream.” As de Faría is over two years younger than Rodriguez, the timeline matches up with them meeting as castmates on Grachi. Grachi is a Nickelodeon Latin America telenovela that aired from 2011 to 2013. De Faría joined in season 2 as antagonist Mía Novoa, where Rodriguez was Grachi’s best friend Mercedes "Mecha" Estevez.
That’s not all. She elaborated on the pictures, writing “from [Sol]’s first day of work (hair, makeup, etc). We could not stop documenting everything. We stole @nicholashoult’s trailer because we were also filming that day and mine wasn’t available. We did not coordinate each other’s outfits. We’re just very cool like that. God is good.” Nicholas Hoult of course is playing Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. Spica aka the Engineer, whose experiments with nanotechnology have turned her into liquid metal, may very well be teaming up with Lex in some capacity but release is too far away for the public to be let in on exactly how.
To finish, de heaped praise on David Denman, whose casting was announced alongside Rodriguez’s, writing in all caps “ALSO @david_denman IS AMAZING AND THE COOLEST AND AHHHHHHGGGGG”, followed by a bunch of emojis including the mermaid, which has been part of one of Gunn’s inside jokes. While Denman’s role is unknown, Rodriguez’s Boudreaux was for a time Batman’s bodyguard before becoming embroiled in the Checkmate criminal organization for whom working required a new face and identity, tearing her and Batman apart.
Releasing July 11, 2025, Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman, working at a Daily Planet led by Wendell Pierce as Perry White whose attention could be caught by Spica, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant and Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troupe. And Beck Bennett as sports guy Steve Lombard, though I suspect Lombard and Spica to not cross paths at all. Of course, The Engineer and the Man of Steel may very well be duking it out at least once. The film will also feature Hoult’s Luthor, Neva Howell and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Ma and Pa Martha and Jonathan Kent, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho aka Rex Mason, Terence Rosemore as Otis, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. It’s also looking to be settled that Milly Alcock will debut as Supergirl here. Meanwhile Peacemaker season 2 brings back John Cena as Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos. It is still set to be released after Superman.
