Netflix Welcomes Back 'Miraculous' By Picking Up Its Feature Film
Marinette and Adrien aka Ladybug and Cat Noir return to their second home for their biggest adventure yet this July
Spotlights on! Netflix has revealed that they will be distributing Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie, known as Miraculous: Le Film in its home country of France and Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie in territories like here in the United States. They have also released a teaser trailer that announced a July 28, 2023 release date.
The series on which the film is based, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is about Parisian teens Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, who balance their normal civilian lives with saving the city from villains as their titular superhero identities. Crushes bloom between one’s civilian self and the other’s hero self each way, and neither realizes it. The movie has long been known to be a retelling of their origins in an almost Pokémon: I Choose You! fashion.
With a heavy mix of action and romance, the series has become very popular globally, even when in the United States it’s jumped from Nickelodeon to Netflix to Disney Channel. The show’s stint on Netflix lasted from 2016 to 2019, and to this day, the first three seasons are still on the service, with seasons two and three split in halves. Season 4 and the first 9 episodes of season 5 are on Disney+, along with the preceding seasons
Produced by Zagtoons, the film is directed by series developer and Zagtoons owner Jeremy Zag with a screenplay he did with Bettina López Mendoza, will see the two team heroes team up to save Paris from Hawk Moth, who is also Adrien's dad. He seeks the Miraculous, the jewels that give the chosen their powers. The battles take the two from the depths of the catacombs to the heights of Notre Dame. As for the voice cast, Cristina Vee and Bryce Papenbrook reprise their roles as Marinette and Adrien, as does Keith Silverstein as Hawk Moth. It stands to reason that the series’ supporting cast, such as Zeno Robinson and Max Mittelman will also be reprising their roles. The Miraculous franchise was created by Thomas Astruc and Nathanael Bronn, and Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir, The Movie will be released on Netflix on July 28.
