Netflix Announces Voice Cast And June Release For 'Skull Island' Animated Series
You may have forgotten Legendary's Monsterverse was expanding in this way, but it's coming very soon
Netflix has just released a lot of information and a bit of info for their Skull Island animated series from Legendary Television. That’s right, it’s Legendary Television, the television arm of Legendary Pictures that holds the current Monsterverse. So no unaffiliated Kong: King of the Apes business going on here.
The streamer has announced that Skull Island is set to premiere worldwide on June 22, in just about four weeks. In the series, viewers go on a thrilling adventure as a group of kind-hearted explorers rescues a girl named Annie from drowning in the ocean. These waters surround the treacherous Skull Island, home to strange creatures and ghastly monsters, including the fearsome titan Kong.
Netflix Has Released The First Teaser For Once-Canceled 'Nimona'
Two years after the film had been canceled and a year since moving to resume production, the first teaser for Nimona, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, has been released by Netflix. In it, Nimona writes and draws a comic, displayed through low-framerate animation starring an ungrateful princess in a tower and a shapeshifter.
The voice cast is led by Nicolas Cantu, the The Amazing World of Gumball alum who can be heard in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, voicing the protagonist Charlie. Fellow TMNT franchise alum Mae Whitman, also known for Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Owl House, and Good Girls, voices Annie. Darren Barnet, who voices Usagi Yojimbo descendant Yuichi Usagi on the streamer’s Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, voices Mike. Benjamin Bratt, who lately recurred on Poker Face and starred in the DMZ miniseries, voices Cap and Betty Gilpin, currently seen in Peacock’s Mrs. Davis, voices Irene.
Skull Island is created and written by Brian Duffield, who produced Cocaine Bear and wrote The Babysitter. He executive produces with Jacob Robinson, who is his co-showrunner, Brad Graeber, Jen Chambers, and Thomas Tull. Powerhouse Animation, whose work includes Castlevania and Blood of Zeus, animates the series. The Monsterverse is also undergoing expansion into live-action television, with Apple TV+’s Godzilla and the Titans, featuring Kurt and Wyatt Russell, and Kiersey Clemons. The next film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, will be released on March 14, 2024.
