Nicholas Galitzine Granted The Power Of Grayskull To Play He-Man In 'Masters Of The Universe
Don’t cry! We’ve got a movie going on! And yes he's playing Prince Adam too
It seems the idea of Nicholas Galitzine becoming royalty again was perfect for Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios. The Red White and Royal Blue star has been cast as He-Man in their upcoming live action Masters of the Universe movie, currently set for release in theaters on June 5, 2026.
It’s very clear how much Amazon MGM has been won over, as both Red White and Royal Blue and his latest, romantic comedy The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway, have been fantastic performers as original films for Prime Video. He is also set to return for the former’s sequel. Upon the announcement of his casting, Galitzine posted to Instagram "By the Power of Greyskull, I HAVE THE POWER. I’m so beyond proud to announce that I will be playing Adam, Prince of Eternia in ‘Masters of the Universe’. It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started."
He-Man is a muscular hero who is the alter ego of Prince Adam of Eternia in the Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line and original Filmation animated series and subsequent series. It was an excised element when adapted into the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren, but Galitzine’s statement confirms Prince Adam will be in this version. The last-given synopsis told how 10-year-old Prince Adam crashes to Earth in a spaceship and separated from his Magical Sword, his one link to Eternia. After tracking it down for nearly two decades, Adam is summoned back home to defend it against Skeletor’s evil forces. That to defeat him, Prince Adam must uncover the mysteries of his past and take on the vast powers of He-Man. In over 15 years of development hell, moving from Warner Bros. to Sony to Netflix, who dropped it over budget concerns and finally landing at Amazon, two known actors had been individually attached to play the role: To All the Boys I've Loved Before and Black Adam’s Noah Centineo and West Side Story’s Kyle Allen, and casting was cleared off with the last move.
The directors the film went through include John Stevenson, Jon M. Chu (since of Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked), McG and Aaron and Adam Nee, the brothers whose work on the script survive in the latest iterations even as Chris Butler takes over, sprucing up what they and Dave Callaham put first. Laika President, CEO and director Travis Knight, who directed his studio’s Kubo and the Two Strings and Paramount’s Bumblebee, is now in the director’s chair, having frequently worked with Butler at his studio on his projects. While the fact that everything seemed to imply that the Adam elements were born from what Butler’s predecessors had laid, it was possible that they hadn’t survived until the involved people confirmed such.
“We’re thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn’t be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man,” said Julie Rapaport, the head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, who confirms that Galitzine will play both identities instead of an Incredible Hulk-like Bixby/Ferrigno situation. A little weird I don’t have a more modern example. Anyway, Rapaport continued “This reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia.”
