Paramount+ Releases 'Star Trek: Section 31' Trailer At CCXP
Brazil got to see the official trailer for the first 'Star Trek' film since 2016, starring Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh most certainly leveraged her Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar win determined to make Star Trek: Section 31 happen. Now she’s coming off her Morrible performance in Wicked, with more anticipated next November in part 2. But it’s Section 31 where her 2025 work begins, and Paramount+ brought it to their panel at CCXP in Brazil, releasing a new trailer Saturday afternoon.
Yeoh introduced the new trailer for the film, where she reprises her Star Trek: Discovery role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, a mirror universe counterpart of Michael Burnham’s first Captain, who joins Section 31, the secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets. Doing so she also must face the sins of her tyrannical past, which includes her upbringing as a young child and her rise to power. The new trailer sees Georgiou meet Omari Hardwick’s Alok, who offers her “a chance to get back in on the action on a galactic scale.” She’s more than happy to give people beatdowns again, but fun and melee are not what it’s all about. Alok warns there is “a threat unlike anything Starfleet’s ever seen”. As the trailer features more punches and explosions, Georgiou ominously declares “Whatever you believed your mission was, it’s worse than you thought”. A new poster has also been released.
Star Trek: Section 31 premieres January 24, 2025, and also stars Kacey Rohl as Rachel Garrett and Miku Martineau as young Georgiou, while Robert Kazinsky, Sven Ruygrok, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao still haven’t had character names given. Written by Craig Sweeny and directed by the aformentioned Osunsanmi, they executive produce with Alex Kurtzman, Yeoh, Aaron Baiers, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth, and is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. The trailer can be watched below. As for the rest of Paramount+ at CCXP, it turns out rather Showtime-dominant, with a new Dexter: Original Sin clip and the official season 3 trailer for Yellowjackets.
