'Star Trek: Prodigy' Season 2 Trailer Confirms Full Season Drop On Netflix
You read that right, after an approximate 7 month delay, all 20 episodes will be released on July 1
Sorry, Star Trek: Prodigy, it looks like you’re not getting any special treatment. The franchise released the trailer for the second season of the animated series ahead of its July 1 premiere on Netflix, and amongst all the plot it shows off, reveals that all 20 episodes will be released at once. No halves, no weekly releases, just a single larger-than-normal-for-Netflix drop.
The second season, ordered soon after the series premiered, was originally set for a December drop last March, likely a weekly one with a break somewhere, until Paramount+ canceled it and removed the series from the service, relinquishing integrity as the proclaimed “home of Star Trek”. The young Protostar six, Dal voiced by Brett Gray, Rok-Tahk, voiced by Rylee Alazraqui, Zero, voiced by Angus Imrie, Jankom Pog, voiced by Jason Mantzoukas, Murf, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, and the soon-to-rejoin Gwyn, voiced by Ella Purnell, are assigned a new mission aboard the USS Voyager-A with the real Admiral Kathryn Janeway, voiced once again by Kate Mulgrew, to rescue Captain Chakotay, voiced by Robert Beltran, and bring peace to Gwyn’s home world. However, when their plan goes astray, it creates a time paradox that jeopardizes both their future and past. The key art sees them in their Starfleet warrant-officer-in-training uniforms, with Gwyn giving it some Vau N’Akat styling.
Other familiar Trek characters appearing this season that originate from previous series include Robert Picardo as The Doctor, whose appearance was featured in the one clip released prior in this whole journey to release, and Ronny Cox back again as Admiral Jellico, who debuted in The Next Generation. John Noble as The Diviner, and Jimmi Simpson as Drednok are back this season, as are recurrers Jason Alexander as Dr. Noum, Daveed Diggs as Commander Tysess, and Jameela Jamil as Ensign Asencia. Steven Universe and The Owl House’s Michaela Dietz voices a character named Ma’jel, after the late Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, an important voice in the franchise as creator Gene’s wife, voice of the computers, and who played Lwxana Troi.
Star Trek: Prodigy was developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman, along with Alex Kurtzman through Secret Hideout. The Hagemans, who are co-showrunners released a statement that once again expressed gratitude to the fans who helped get the series seen again following the abandonment at Paramount+, saying "We deeply appreciate our fans who have stood by us and our passionate crew who made this all possible. The work speaks for itself, but it's the heart that will endure.” Netflix will carry Prodigy in 22 other regions in addition to the United States, including the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Brazil, Argentina, France, Israel, Singapore, most European regions, and select Asian territories. Canada has Prodigy on CTV.ca and the CTV App, and the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Central and Eastern Europe are under SkyShowtime jurisdiction. France’s Okoo FranceTV streaming platform premiered the new season what will be four months too soon thanks to some miscommunication.
