Warner Bros. Unveils First 'Superman' Motion Poster To Ready Teaser Trailer Release
Look up up and away as a new world gets closer
Okay so the online people were close, and not entirely wrong. It was believed that the teaser trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, the film that would properly kick off DC Studios’s new DC Universe, would be released on Monday. Instead, the anticipating fans got a motion poster featuring star David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, and a trailer teaser that revealed the teaser’s release date of Thursday, this Thursday, December 19 at 9 AM Eastern, 6 AM Pacific, beating most if not all domestic early screenings for the weekend’s new releases Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King, whose trailer packages are likely to feature said teaser.
The trailer teaser does a 360* shot of the crest of the House of El, urging viewers to look up, before telling the teaser date. The motion poster is accompanied by slowed-down interpretation of composer John Williams’s famous Superman theme that originated from the original 1978 film starring Christopher Reeve. Because it wouldn’t be a new Superman iteration without harkening back to Richard Donner’s so-admired take. The triumphant blaring horns are traded for a quieter, more thoughtful remix emphasizing strings, accompanying a woman’s vocals humming the iconic melody. Superman himself gazes upwards as he takes flight. The reds, blues and yellows of his costume blue into the background of the motion poster, resulting in a striking, high-speed zooming effect.
Superman is set for release on July 11, 2025 and has a huge ensemble that includes Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant and Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troupe. Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho aka Rex Mason bringing extra herodom to it all. There’s also Neva Howell and Pruitt Taylor Vince home in Smallville as Ma and Pa Martha and Jonathan Kent, while the villain side features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica, The Engineer, Terence Rosemore as Otis, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. Milly Alcock is all but confirmed to debut as Supergirl here, while Frank Grillo reprises his role as Rick Flag Sr.. Alan Tudyk also has an unconfirmed role, but recent developments surrounding the character of Clayface, ie a movie coming in fall 2026, might indicate something in that direction. And we can’t forget that Krypto the Superdog will be part of things too.
And yes, I used a shot from the original The Simpsons Movie teaser with the Superman Returns fakeout. I dunno, it felt right. Everyone else is reusing images they’ve already used for thumbnails and I’m not about that. The Superman teaser is only three days away and will provide plenty of fresh shots to pull in the seven months to come. Or however long until the official trailer.
