'Loki' Follows 'Ahsoka' Into Primetime Releases, But In Thor's Domain
Season 2 will now premiere 6 hours earlier on October 5
While Disney+ seemingly has not released numbers following the 14 million view(er?)s for Ahsoka’s premiere, it seems this release change has worked well enough that Loki will follow its lead. Instead of premiering Friday October 6 at 3 AM Eastern/Midnight Pacific and subsequent episodes releasing on subsequent Fridays, the season will be rolled out Thursday nights at 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific.
It was the release of Loki’s first season that triggered Disney+’s moving of their big content update day to Wednesdays, whether it was original series, new episodes, or library series, while Fridays, which was the day for such, remained so for movies. Ahsoka was originally set for the standard Wednesday release before getting Tuesdays in the same 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific timeslot Loki now has on Thursdays. It’s not like it makes much of a difference in escaping the fam really. While Thursday is named after Thor, Wednesday is named after adoptive dad Odin (yes really), and Friday is named after Frigg, aka Frigga, his mother played by Rene Russo.
'Ahsoka' Will Now Premiere Episodes On Tuesday Evenings
Is this a sign of streaming struggles that they’re forced to experiment? Following last night’s D23 Fan Event premiere at Disney Parks around the world, the Star Wars socials announced that the Ahsoka series will be premiering and released thereafter in ways no Disney+ series has been released before, and for that matter, many streaming series at all.
In the new season, Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. He builds a team with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and new and returning characters, like Quan’s Ouroboros or “OB”, navigating a constantly-growing multiverse with evermore danger in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, and Miss Minutes. Along the way the truth of the meaning of free will and purpose will reveal itself.
Disney+ has also released a new featurette “The Amazing Loki,” featuring Hiddleston, Di Martino and Ke Huy Quan, along with EP Kevin R. Wright as they explore what it means to be Loki this season. The series also stars Owen Wilson as Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Renslayer, Tara Strong as the voice of Miss Minutes, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero as TVA receptionist Casey, Rafael Casal as Brad Wolfe, Kate Dickie and Liz Carr in currently undisclosed roles, Neil Ellice as Hunter D-90, and Jonathan Majors as Victor Timely and any other Kang variants that may show.
Eric Martin, a staff writer during Season 1, became head writer for Season 2 and also serves as an executive producer. Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani are this season’s directors. In addition to Hiddleston, Wright, Benson, and Moorhead, Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Michael Waldron are the other executive producers, with Trevor Waterson serving as co-executive producer. Ahsoka’s finale airs on October 3. The featurette is included below.
Sylvie Warns “Everything Is Turning To Sh**” In New 'Loki' Season 2 Trailer
With four weeks and the rest of that landed week (at the time this opening was written) until Loki season 2 arrives on Disney+, a new 45-second trailer has been released. It’s almost unbelievable that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been pulled through time, past, present, and future. The fairs, the amusement parks.
