'Ahsoka' Will Now Premiere Episodes On Tuesday Evenings
The 'Star Wars' series will therefore premiere on August 22, a day earlier than originally announced
Is this a sign of streaming struggles that they’re forced to experiment? Following last night’s D23 Fan Event premiere at Disney Parks around the world, the Star Wars socials announced that the Ahsoka series will be premiering and released thereafter in ways no Disney+ series has been released before, and for that matter, many streaming series at all.
Instead of the typical Wednesday 3 AM Eastern/Midnight Pacific releases, Ahsoka will now premiere its first two episodes six hours earlier, on Tuesday, August 22 at 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific, and release subsequent episodes at that time over the six weeks until the season finishes on October 3.
Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson as ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tahno, who debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Dawson in the role in The Mandalorian. She is hunting for Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen, reprising his role from Star Wars Rebels, hoping it will lead her to Ezra Bridger, who disappeared with him at the end of that series. Both are making their live action debuts, with Bridger being played by Eman Esfandi. Baylan Skoll, played by the late Ray Stevenson, is a former Jedi who survived Order 66 before turning to the Dark Side, promised great power by Thrawn. Hera Syndulla, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, laments spending so much of her life fighting the Empire, and is desperately pleading for assistance from the New Republic council. Sabine Wren also debuts in live action here, now played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. The series will also feature Wes Chatham and David Tennant.
Disney+ originally moved new episode updates, whether of original series, Disney Channel series, or older ended series, to Wednesdays in support of Loki as it was his sort of domain. Incidentally, season 2 of Loki will be premiering on Fridays, which is where all content additions were until then. It also served to get a jump on other services like Paramount+ and (HBO) Max, who does such business on Thursdays. However, Ahsoka isn’t the first Star Wars Disney+ series to get an early and unusual release. Back last year, the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi mitigated a 2-day delay by three hours at midnight Eastern rather than Pacific on May 27.
