Mark Hamill Joins Kevin Conroy’s Batman For One Last Ride As 'Crisis' Part Three New Cast Revealed
It’s one last go for the duo going back to 1992
It’s official, they’re a package deal to the end. At the end of January it was reported that late legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy had one last performance in the bank, reprising as his Batman: The Animated Series iteration in the direct-to-video film Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths - Part Three. Now it’s being reported that Mark Hamill, who has been his Joker since Batman: The Animated Series and followed him through the Arkham games, The Killing Joke, Justice League Action, and Scooby-Doo, is bringing the laughs to the climactic finale of the film trilogy adapting comics’ most famous event.
Following Conroy’s death from cancer in November 2022 at the age of 66, Hamill had said that their professional relationship had reached the point that "They would call and say, 'They want you to do the Joker,' and my only question was, 'Is Kevin Batman?' If they said yes, I would say, 'I'm in.' We were like partners. We were like Laurel and Hardy. Without Kevin there, there doesn't seem to be a Batman for me." And with this gig not reported for over a year (and probably under NDA), it was easy to conclude everything that had them was already out. At Fan Expo San Francisco in November, he was steadfast, employing Joker’s "Without Batman, crime has no punchline." line to drive home how his time in the role is done upon the film’s release.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment when reached said they could not yet comment on the film, while Hamill's representatives did not respond to a request for comment. However, the cast list of added players for the third and final part has been accrued, and while it doesn’t lend very well to that greater animation celebration like the Arrowverse adaptation was for live action (and had a tie-in comic that went as far back as Fleischer Superman), but it’s still quite an eclectic group: We have Ant-Man’s Corey Stoll as Lex Luthor, Brian Bloom as Adam Strange and Sidewinter, Ashly Burch as Nightshade and Queen Mera, Katee Sackhoff as Poison Ivy, Elysia Rotaru as Black Canary, Armen Taylor as Jay Garrick (the original Flash), Cynthia Kaye McWilliams as Dr. Beth Chapel aka Cheetah, Dean Winters as Captain Storm, Jason Spisak as Blue Lantern Razer and Hayseed, and Brett Dalton as Batlash and Captain Atom. How big a multiversal spread they cover has not been made clear, and it’s always possible there are more representatives from other pre-existing DC animation being withheld. And that’s on top of the litany of heroes of the trilogy’s first two parts, led by Jensen Ackles as Batman, Darren Criss as Superman & Earth-2 Superman, Stana Katic as Wonder Woman & Superwoman, Matt Bomer as The Flash/Barry Allen, Meg Donnelly as Supergirl, who also serves as Harbinger in this adaptation, and Jimmi Simpson as Green Arrow.
How many of that long list of heroes given for the first two films beyond the leads make it to this part in even a major supporting role is unknown. There’s the whole second part still awaiting release next month on April 23, for the plot to reveal their fates. That release date information is so relatively new that such info for Part Three is not ready to be revealed, as reinforced by the company not commenting on the film any more than they already have.
