'Avengers: Secret Wars' Writer Michael Waldron Will Write 'The Kang Dynasty' Too
Waldron also created 'Loki' and wrote 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'
Already tasked with writing Marvel Studios’s seventh Avengers film, Secret Wars, Michael Waldron has been brought on to write the sixth film, The Kang Dynasty, which are currently set to open on the same weekend in May a year apart.
Being the creator and first season showrunner of Loki and writer of its first season and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, taking on The Kang Dynasty cements Waldron as a creative linchpin of the entire Multiverse Saga, as one of the studio’s most trusted minds of the era. He replaces Jeff Loveness, writer of Kang the Conqueror’s next major appearance following Loki: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Waldron has seen quite a bit of recent success closing a multi-year megadeal with a combined overall with Marvel/20th Television for himself individually and his production company, Anomaly Pictures, in both film and television. The television side features a full slate of shows that haven’t been revealed yet.
Waldron will begin writing amidst a search for a new director. As previously reported, Destin Daniel Cretton stepped aside in order to focus on his Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel, and the Wonder Man TV series. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently set for release on May 1, 2026, which is plenty of time to get it and Secret Wars (May 7, 2027) done. Waldron built Anomaly Pictures with his producing partner Adam Fasullo. They met and grew their kinship while developing Starz’s Heels.
