Tom Hiddleston Calls 'Loki' Season 2 Finale "Conclusion To 14 Years Of My Life"
Considering where Loki ended up, yeah it was pretty final
The end of the SAG-AFTRA strike allowed for some last minute promotion for Brie Larson and The Marvels and Tom Hiddleston and season 2 of Loki. Both of them quickly booked The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, appearing on the same episode which aired Friday. And oh god, he might very well be saying goodbye.
Choosing not to share spoilers, as a god of stories does, Hiddleston remarked "It's the conclusion of season two. It's also the conclusion to seasons one and two. It's also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I'm 42 now. it's been a journey. I do think in the finale there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I've played.” However, to understand just how definitive an ending Loki gave, it is worth explaining just what the ending was.
Loki chooses to dissolve the Loom and taking it upon himself to maintain and protect the branches, becoming the great protector of the multiverse. He physically grabs the timeline branches, enriching them with his magic and power to give them life, weavung them into his cape. As everyone goes on, it turns out he’s basically created a manifestation of the world tree Yggdrasil, as he sits at the center, sacrificing his life to the cause, his burden of purpose. Before “Glorious Purpose” released, executive producer and head writer Eric Martin said this:
We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. Season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don't know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons.
One could speculate on a return all they want, and Wikipedia can hold their stubborn skepticism that it’s over all they want (though they especially shouldn’t), but this seems pretty definitive. It clearly wasn’t built to last as much as they’d like. Check out the clip below, and all six films and twelve episodes of his journey as Loki are streaming on Disney+.
