'Peacemaker' Season 2 Adds Tim Meadows With Filming Underway
Greg Mottola has also been revealed to be directing two episodes of the DC Max series
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been victimized by Amanda Waller. Wednesday, Peacemaker creator James Gunn announced ahead of everyone that Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows has joined the cast for season 2 of Max’s DC series starring John Cena. He’ll be playing Langston Fleury, an agent at ARGUS.
Gunn, who wrote every episode and directed three because he has concurrent Superman production on his plate, welcomed Meadows on Instagram to the new DC Universe with a picture of them and his co-star Steve Agee who plays John Economos. If you’ve never heard of Langston Fleury, don’t fret. He’s created for the show. Which is pretty normal for DC TV and film. Harley Quinn is probably the most famous example, but Jimmy Olsen, Isis, and Batgirl are early examples, Livewire and Mercy Graves are just a couple more DCAU examples, and Lex Luthor’s dad wasn’t fully fleshed out until Smallville introduced Lionel. The show also introduced Chloe Sullivan. Will Gunn be retroactively pointing to a specific black ARGUS agent and claiming Fleury is him? Who knows, it’s unlikely though. He did create Waller’s daughter Leota Adebayo, played by Danielle Brooks, as well as Butterfly agent Clemson Murn, played by Chukwudi Iwuji, last season.
Meadows joined Saturday Night Live in February 1991 and stayed on through the next nine seasons until the end of the 1999-2000 season. It is the connections he made here that make up a lot of his film credits, starting with SNL-based movies from Coneheads to It’s Pat to Wayne’s World 2 before getting his own: The Ladies Man. He played Principal Duvall in all three screen versions of Mean Girls: the original, the TV sequel, and the film version of its musical, released earlier this year. It continued with Semi-Pro, Walk Hard, the Grown Ups films and Popstar. He’s pretty ubiquitous on TV, but his prominent role was as Mr. Glascott on The Goldbergs, in a major recurring role there across its ten seasons and briefly spinning off to be main cast on Schooled, returning to the main show when the spinoff ended.
Gunn also revealed that Greg Mottola is directing two of the episodes that he isn’t, captioning a separate photo “Ever since seeing Daytrippers back in the ‘90’s at Film Forum in NY, I’ve been a huge @gregmottolaofficial fan - through Superbad and so much more. When we needed a director for episodes two and three of Season 2 of #Peacemaker he was the first person I thought of. Can’t wait for you guys to see what we’re cooking!” Mottola is also the director of Superbad, Adventureland, and Paul, with television experience in six episodes of Undeclared and three episodes of Arrested Development and Dave.
Meadows joins a cast led by Cena and featuring Brooks and Agee in a starring cast that also includes Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante. Frank Grillo joins this season continuing the role of Rick Flagg Sr. with Sol Rodriguez joining as Sasha Bordeaux and David Denman in a role yet to be revealed. Gunn, his co-CEO Peter Safran and Matt Miller serve as executive producers on the series, with Cena as co-executive producer and Stacy Littlejohn as consulting producer. Peacemaker is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros Television. Peacemaker is expected to premiere its second season some time after the July 11, 2025 release of Superman. Gunn’s other series, the animated Creature Commandoes where Rick Flagg Sr. originates, was announced at Warner Bros. Animation’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival presentation to premiere in December. I’ll hopefully have more on that soon. Season 2 of Peacemaker is shooting now
