Disney Channel Sets Premiere Date For Animated Series 'Primos'
Set your calendars for Comic-Con weekend because the rollout is there
After a stellar showing at Annecy International Animation Film Festival (where I still have some unfinished reporting business) that did not include it, Disney Branded Television and Disney Television Animation have set the premiere date for their newest 2D-animated comedy series Primos, inspired and created by writer, animation artist, executive producer and Big City Greens alum Natasha Kline. The series will have a two-episode premiere with two episodes on Thursday, July 25 at 8 PM Eastern on Disney Channel.
But there’s more to it! The first episode of Primos will be uploaded to Disney Channel’s YouTube channel on premiere day while the first two episodes won’t be available on DisneyNOW until the next day July 26. That is actually rather contrary to how DisneyNOW is typically utilized (new episodes are typically added the day of its linear premiere). However, Disney+ is adding the first nine episodes that day. The series will have a Saturday 9 AM Eastern timeslot that begins July 27, with two episodes airing every week, which means by the end of the first week, four of the nine Disney+-available episodes will have aired linearly.
The series is based on Kline’s childhood in Southern California, growing up in a large, multicultural and blended Mexican-American family. Tater Ramirez Humphrey is our lead, a quirky girl with ambitious summer dreams, voiced by Myrna Velasco. However, her plans become complicated when her family invites all 12 of her cousins to stay with them, leading to a summer of surprises and unforgettable adventures. The cast is also considered to be led by Angélica María as Tater’s grandmother, Buela; Cheech Marin as Tater’s grandfather, Pop; and Melissa Villaseñor as Tater’s sister, Nellie Ramirez Humphrey. As for the cousins, Kline voices two of them Gordita and ChaCha, while the rest are Elizabeth Grullón as Lita, Jonathan Melo as Scooter, Rick Simon as Cousin Bud and Big Nacho, Cristina Vee Valenzuela as Tere and Toñita, Nomi Ruiz as Tabi, Becca Q. Co as Lot Lot, Ryan Anderson Lopez as Nachito and Sarah Tubert as Lucita. Jim Conroy as Tater’s dad, Bud Humphrey; Michelle Ortiz as Tater’s mom, Bibi Ramirez Humphrey; and Liza Koshy as Tater’s best friend Serena also feature.
Four guest stars are highlighted, all uncles. Mark Consuelos as Tío Ivan Ramirez, Joel “The Kid Mero” Martinez as Tío Diego Perez, Gabriel Iglesias as Tío Gustavo, and Ricardo Chavira as Tío Ignacio, with other guest stars alluded to. Primos also counts supervising director Shaun Cashman, story editor Karla Sakas Shropshire, producer Philip M. Cohen, art director Ivan Aguirre, series songwriter Alana Da Fonseca and Hey Arnold! composer Jim Lang among its creative team.

Wow. They're trying to copy Nickelodeon's "Loud House" and "Casagrandes" here. But can it work on its own?
