'RiffTrax Live: TimeCop' Kickstarter Sets First Dollar-Based Stretch Goals
Kevin, Mike, and Bill are ready to kick this campaign into high gear!
We’ve got a new briefing to cover from the RiffTrax Kickstarter campaign for their live show riffing the Jean Claude Van Damme film TimeCop. To update our totals, we’re now at $406,071 from 3,734 backers. That unlocked the first stretch short “What Mary Jo Wanted”, a Bridget Nelson and (not the subject) Mary Jo Pehl riff that sees that the main character wants a puppy, which she gets. But they keep it confined to the kitchen, causing it to cry all night. Losing sleep, everyone is so fed up with her and the puppy until she comes up with a solution. It’s based on the book by Janice May Udry. A week after reaching full funding, they’ve added new stretch goals, and while the last update had ones that hinged on the amount of backers the campaign gets, it wouldn’t be complete without new dollar-based ones, ie extended funding milestones.
At $420,000, the Blu-ray release of RiffTrax Live: TimeCop will be unlocked. After all, as the guys say “Only a certain quality of film really needs to be viewed in the highest definition possible in order to be truly appreciated.” And TimeCop is evidently one of them. All backers at the $100 Live Show DVD package and above will get to choose between the DVD and the Blu-ray. At $460,000 there will be a new compilation VOD unlocked, titled "Hunks of Junk". In the style of last year's “Super Zeroes”, this will collect sci-fi-adjacent clips from over the years, and craft a new compilation of space stuff “from a long time ago and a galaxy pretty far away”. It will include host segments that will bring it to a runtime of approximately an hour. This reward if unlocked will be available to and received by everyone at the $80 Digital Only + Digital Stretch tier.

Damme, they’re grateful. Shortlya fter hitting their $350,000 Kickstarter funding goal Wednesday afternoon for their next live show, featuring a riff of the sci-fi thriller TimeCop, the guys at RiffTrax sent out their first update to backers, expressing how grateful they were that they’ll be able to do the show this year, and being assured so quickly. TimeCop goes as such: In the futuristic world of 2004, Max Walker is splitting the very barriers of space and time. After the death of his wife, played by Mia Sara, at the hands of time-traveling goons, he is recruited to an elite task force of time-based police officers, the Time Enforcement Commission. Unfortunately, a U.S. Senator (Ron Silver) has gained access to their system of time travel and he’s using it to commit unspeakable evils across generations and must be stopped.
The riff of the film will be performed live by the trio of Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, and Michael J. Nelson, live at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville, TN on June 26, and be broadcast to the big screen in over 700 movie theaters across America on Thursday, August 14 with an encore on Tuesday, August 19 as a Fathom Event, which is how it’s always been done, give or take an encore or change of performance location.
