'Rock Paper Scissors' Brings Its Guest Stars To Play In Newest Nicktoon
You’ll hear a Batman! A Hawkgirl! And George Costanza!
Nickelodeon’s premiere of its next Nicktoon (on its own platforms) Rock Paper Scissors is coming closer and closer. On Wednesday, the network officially revealed the plethora of guest stars its debut season, premiering Monday, February 12, will have, while also releasing its official trailer and key art. The series will also premiere in several Nickelodeon international markets starting around then.
Actually, that’s not even entirely true, as it has been confirmed that, like the main telecast where CBS is premiering the Justin Hartley-starring drama Tracker, Nickelodeon is having its very own Super Bowl LVIII leadout program, and it’s this very series. Airing at 10 PM Eastern on February 11, viewers will get a full half-hour time slot of episode premieres, with “The Fart Joke Debate”, where Rock, Scissors and Pencil set out to find a fart joke that will make Paper laugh after they discover his dislike for them, and “The First Lou Episode”, where the trio attempts to get their landlord to lower their rent by trying to help him achieve his unrealistic dream. Even before that, there is a special titled “Lights, Camera, Rock, Paper, Scissors!” which provides an exclusive look on Monday, February 5, at 7:30 PM.
Already Annie-nominated for the episodes and shorts released early online in the lead-up to the official debut, one may notice the inclusion of Carla Gugino’s Birthday Cop among the listed, the most easily identifiable character in terms of the episode in which they appear…at least before this press release, as Star Trek: Prodigy and Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander voices Jonathan FartJoke, the greatest fart joke comedian of all time in what is most certainly “The Fart Joke Debate”. The series also touts Grammy winner Alessia Cara as famous pop star Lolly; Madame Web star and soon-to-be Hawkgirl of the new DC Universe Isabela Merced returns to the network where she began her career on 100 Things To Do Before High School as The Susan, described as a hulking hybrid of bicycle, hot rod and hot-air balloon; Superstore’s Lauren Ash voices Paper’s action movie star sister Sandpaper, J.P. Karliak voices The Convenient News Reporter, Loki’s Eugene Cordero is Putty, Diedrich Bader is Chad BrockChad, and Ray Chase, the voice of Professor Cerise in Pokémon Journeys is Logan of The Rat Bros.
As a refresher on the main cast, there’s Ron Funches as Rock, who has the biggest heart and moral compass, as well as modeling aspirations; Thomas Lennon as Paper, the self-proclaimed “smart guy” of the group who wants an inventor, but whose product at this stage tends to explode; and Carlos Alazraqui as Scissors, the overly confident wannabe cool guy. His ego is what’s credited as the main source of chaos. There’s also Melissa Villaseñor as Pencil, the genuinely very smart neighbor in their building and Eddie Pepitone as Lou, the angry garbage can who serves as their landlord.
The episode that will serve as the series’s official premiere in its regular 5:30 PM timeslot is “Scissors Gets a Job” where Scissors tries to become a janitor after he runs out of money but discovers that the job involves way more skill than he initially thought. Meanwhile, Rock and Paper try to be his unusual motivators. The series is created, written, and executive produced by Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman, who previously created Bizaardvark together for Disney Channel and co-produced and wrote for Paradise PD and Robot Chicken. DreamWorks alum Conrad Vernon and The Fairly OddParents’ Bob Boyle, who created Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! and Ying Yang Yo! serve as the series’s executive producers.
