'That '90s Show' Gets Split Season 2 Premiere Dates At Netflix
We’re all alright this summer when the show returns
Hello again Wisconsin! That ‘90s Show is back this summer and bigger than ever. Netflix has released the official teaser for the second season of the That ‘70s Show sequel series, which will be sixteen episodes released as two eights. It was announced to cap off the Netflix is a Joke Festival which had ran over the last week or so.
The first eight will drop on Thursday, June 27, and the back eight will be released on Thursday, October 24. It’s six more episodes than season 1 got, but are considered parts 2 and 3 instead of a whole part 2. The season will see Eric and Donna’s daughter Leia, played by Callie Haverda, gleefully visit her grandparents Kitty and Red, played by Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith for summer 1996 following a very social previous summer.
As the official synopsis puts it:
“It’s 1996 and Leia Forman is back in Point Place for another summer of fun with her friends and grandparents, Kitty and Red. Leia and Jay are excited to be together again after nine months of long distance. But she’s on edge since Jay still doesn’t know she almost kissed Nate. Nate is concerned that his girlfriend, Nikki, doesn’t know either. How long can they keep this secret? Turns out, not long at all. And when the truth finally comes out, relationships are threatened, friendships are at stake, and the summer is on the verge of ending before it even gets started.”
Jay is Jay Kelso, the son of Michael and Jackie, played by Mace Coronel. Mila Kunis said at Family Guy’s 25th anniversary PaleyFest event that her and husband Ashton Kutcher’s reprising cameos served their entire purpose and won’t be making any more. Probably so they don’t have to address whether Betsy, Michael’s season 7-born daughter still exists or not. Gwen is played by Ashley Aufderheide, Nate is her brother, played by Maxwell Acee Donovan, and he has a girlfriend Nikki, played by Sam Morelos. They’re all friends with Ozzie, played by Reyn Doi, their insightful gay friend. As far as reprising legacy characters this season, it seems Mom is doing the transport as Laura Prepon’s Donna is set to appear but Topher Grace as Eric is not. Donna’s father Bob Pinciotti, played by Don Stark, also appears as do Andrea Anders as Sherri Runck, and Tommy Chong as Leo. At the same Family Guy PaleyFest panel it was revealed that Chris Griffin voice Seth Green would be reprising his role as Mitch Miller, which he played in 5 episodes from 2003 to 2004.
In fact, the teaser, set to rock classic “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit is very guest star focused, probably saving the story for the official trailer. Lisa Loeb and Carmen Electra are the celebrities playing themselves in the second and fourth episodes respectively. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes show up, though it’s unclear whether they’re themselves, Jay and Silent Bob, or new characters. Mewes didn’t shave his mustache so who knows. Former ‘70s Show writer Will Forte (at a time with Clone High and some Saturday Night Live overlap) will appear in episode 6 as Kiefer, an episode that also features A Different World and K.C. Undercover star Kadeem Hardison as Marcus. Wayne Knight had a guest role in the original series as Angel, and will now play Bruce. Comedian Matt Rife will play airline pilot Travis in the eighth episode. Watch the teaser below.
