Situated just about equally between its last two release dates, The Marvels is letting everyone know it can be seen in in IMAX when the latest film in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe releases in theaters on November 10. They’re doing so with a new teaser.
Notably, they wouldn’t have been able to declare such if Warner Bros. hadn’t delayed Dune: Part Two from its November 3 release date to March 15, 2024. In doing so, it vacated its claim to the IMAX screens it had reserved for that week and the several weeks after, while retaining them for its new release period. So of course The Marvels swoops in to take them, though whether in identical terms to what Dune did is unknown. Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes arrives the very week after, poised to take some of those screens.
There isn’t much new footage, only two seconds according to The Direct but it’s not entirely the point. Along with a new poster, it did however include a short message for IMAX moviegoers stating that the film includes "more than 30 minutes of IMAX exclusive 1.90:1 expanded aspect ratio" with more of the movie on screen than would be in standard theaters:
"'The Marvels' was made to be experienced in IMAX, including more than 30 minutes of IMAX exclusive 1.90:1 expanded aspect ratio—featuring up to 26% more picture in select sequences throughout the film. IMAX moviegoers will experience more of the image on screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity."
The Marvels stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, and Samuel L. Jackson and had faced several delays of its own stemming from the heights of the COVID-19 pandemic, but isn’t moving again. While it is 2023’s final Phase 5 film, it’s not the MCU’s final outing of the year, as the second season of What If…? is finally set for release at “Christmastime”.
