'The Marvels' Remembers Its Place As A 'Captain Marvel' Sequel In Official Trailer
The film releases on November 10
Marvel Studios may not have been in San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H on the Saturday of the event, but apparently they chose midnight Eastern on the Friday to demonstrate that fans wouldn’t be empty handed. They released the official trailer for The Marvels, starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani.
The trio unites for the first time as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. The trailer starts with Carol chatting it up with Nick Fury, played once again by Samuel L. Jackson fresh off the Skrull faction rebellion in Secret Invasion, from her ship. We meet Zawe Ashton’s Dar-Benn, a leading warrior revolutionary of the Kree race who calls Carol “the annihilator”, possibly for being such a prominent Skrull ally, claiming she had everything taken from her. She’s seemingly the one who entangles the powers of the hero trio, where every use trades places. Her goal, as Carol later reveals? Destroy every planet they call home. It’s unclear who Carol is talking about that would add more answers than Earth. Maybe it’s Flerkens considering the amount of cats, or Flerkens played by cats seen onboard the ship Rambeau sees light, Captain Marvel absorbs, and Ms. Marvel turns it into physical matter. As Kamala demonstrates ill-advisedly, Carol was in midair, so Monica saves her. This is the point where the Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic” kicks in this time. A lot of action-filled battling ensues, including Fury getting some shots off. Higher. Further. Faster.
The Marvels is currently set to be released on November 10, 2023, previously having this very weekend Haunted Mansion opened on instead. It is directed by Nia DaCosta the first Black woman and fourth woman to direct a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is currently in Phase Five. She, Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells co-wrote the screenplay.
