Jennifer Garner Returning As Elektra In 'Deadpool 3'
The actress reunites with Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds, whom she worked with on 'The Adam Project' to return to her Marvel role after 20 years
This is no sai-op, but she sure signed up for it. Jennifer Garner has been cast in Deadpool 3 and not just in any role, but returning as Elektra Natchios, the assassin anti-heroine created by Frank Miller for his Daredevil comics.
Garner originally played Elektra to Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock, in 2003’s Daredevil from 20th Century Fox. She also managed to get a spinoff film, Elektra, which was released in 2005, one of the few female comic book characters (neither are straight “heroes”) to get their own movie in that era of studio comic book movies. Neither were box office successes. At the time, she was in the midst of starring on the ABC spy drama Alias. Now, she’s reuniting with Reynolds and director Shawn Levy following The Adam Project, which was released to Netflix last year. Her recent work includes the Party Down revival and the Apple TV+ miniseries The Last Thing He Told Me.
Of course, Garner isn’t the only returning Fox Marvel character returning. Aside from Ryan Reynolds as the merc with the mouth Deadpool aka Wade Wilson himself, Hugh Jackman is doing one last go as his Wolverine from the X-Men films in a buddy adventure for the duo. Most of Deadpool’s supporting cast from previous films also return for Deadpool’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Morena Baccarin as Wade’s girlfriend Vanessa Carlysle, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Karan Soni as driver sidekick Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as roommate Blind Al, Rob Delaney as human X-Force member Peter, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Warhead and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, both X-Men.
This casting news certainly lends to major multiverse hopping for the fourth wall-breaker who indulges in meta humor and self-awareness so there may be more confirmed. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elektra was played by Elodie Young in the Netflix series Daredevil and The Defenders to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. The character was left to an ambiguous fate, and considering the cleaner break Murdock seems to be having as his story resumes, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing much Elektra otherwise.
Levy, and Reynolds Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige are producing Deadpool 3, and Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Zeb Wells are writing the script. Deadpool 3 is currently set to be released May 3, 2024.
