Warner Bros. Releases First Trailer For 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' Prequel Film At CCXP
Going back to before the beginning? Sounds like a lovely day.
I have been…lacking with my Warner Bros. theatrical release coverage lately. I fell off of Barbie’s quest to its billion dollar box office after the opening weekend and I never got around to covering any Wonka or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailers. Or The Color Purple. Didn’t even get around to the Dune: Part Two trailer before the film got delayed. As much as the studio might not deserve sympathy, this still felt like something that needed to be corrected.
Warner Bros. has unveiled the trailer for their Mad Max prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga at CCXP, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. It will come nine years after the previous Mad Max film, Fury Road, which introduced the Furiosa character, played by Charlize Theron there and Taylor-Joy here. The logline reads: As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two tyrant as he war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
It’s Hemsworth playing Warlord Dementus. Alyla Browne, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones Angus Sampson and Quaden Bayles also star while the actor playing younger Immortan Joe has not been confirmed. George Miller returns to direct and teams with Nico Lathouris again to write the screenplay. The Mad Max character himself, played previously by Mel Gibson and Tom Hardy, is not expected to appear. It is a prequel after all, and Max and Furiosa only met in Fury Road.
CCXP is a Brazilian convention that in less than a decade has become one of the biggest internationally. It was here last year that Blue Beetle’s poster was revealed, and Disney had stuff for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This year Netflix has brought a Rebel Moon setup and Paramount+ has brought Halo and Star Trek: Discovery. It’s a big draw for all major American distributors at this point. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga releases in theaters on May 24, 2024.
