'Zombies 4: Dawn Of The Vampires' Teaser Makes Disney Channel Original Movie Branding Undead
Cable is in quite a weird place, so check out this caper
If you thought the Zombies movies were camp before, they’re ready to double down on definitions. On Tuesday, Disney+ released the teaser trailer for Zombies 4: Dawn Of The Vampires, the fourth film in the Disney Channel-born franchise. The trailer revealed that it will premiere on Thursday, July 10 at 7 PM as a Disney Channel Original Movie, the label it was born under, stream on Disney+ next day, Friday July 11, and be available on-demand.
In this fourth installment, a new adventure dawns for alien-zombie power couple Addison and Zed, played by Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim when their summer road trip takes an unexpected detour, creating another monster rivalry that lends to more than just bug bites: Daywalkers vs. Vampires. Tensions flare when they find themselves acting as camp counselors between these paranormal parties, led by sworn enemies Nova, the fierce Daywalker played by Freya Skye, and proud vampire Victor, played by Malachi Barton. With the help of fellow returnees Eliza and Willa, played once again by Kylee Russell and Chandler Kinney, they must convince Nova and Victor to try to make peace as an even greater threat looms. The cast also features Julian Lerner as Ray, Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Mekonnen Knife as Vargas, Lisa Chappell as Vampire Eldress, and Jonno Roberts as Commander Bright. And since it wouldn’t be a Zombies movie without songs, Dawn Of The Vampires features nine new original songs and new renditions of “Someday” and “Ain’t No Doubt About It”. The teaser also reveals a return of Disney Channel Original Movie branding, with a logo befitting the graphical refresh the network has gone through since it was last used.
'Descendants 5' Begins Production With A New Smeegion Of Hoodlums
The future of Disney Channel Original Movies seems murky. Not quality-wise but it’s April and only Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires has been announced for this year. As for the future, Disney+’s original movies are sparser than ever, let alone the DCOMs they share custody of but everyone could see how foolish it would be to not ride the second wind of th…
The previous third installment, which had no subtitle (Dawn of the Vampires is Zombies’s first film to have one), premiered on Disney+ first on July 15, 2022, but managed to maintain the Disney Channel Original Movie branding for its “Lost Song Edition” airing. Under Wraps 2 would also hold the label when it premiered that September. However, 2023 and 2024 instituted a vaguer, neutral label: Disney Original Movies, due to the increased Disney+ involvement, incorporation what have you. The first, March’s Prom Pact premiered on Disney Channel despite being announced as a Disney+ original film. Of the four other films, only Descendants: The Rise of Red mimicked Zombies 3’s release model, and its own sequel is the only other currently announced DCOM. But hey at least they’re actually DCOMs again. Might have to do with deemphasizing original movies for the streamer.
Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires is produced by Night Zone Productions Limited. Paul Hoen, who directed all three previous Zombies films, continues his directing duties from a screenplay written by David Light, Joseph Raso and co-producer Josh Cagan. He executive produces with Manheim, Donnelly, Light, Raso, Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky. Mahita P. Simpson serves as co-executive producer alongside producer Skot Bright.
