'Star Wars: Tales Of The Empire' Gets A Grievous Sneak Peek
Morgan Elsbeth strikes back in clip from series premiering May 4 on Disney+
The upcoming week is going to be pretty significant for Star Wars, with The Bad Batch’s series finale releasing Wednesday, and Saturday being Star Wars Day. While not the most packed edition, the franchise is still set to premiere the Tales of the Jedi follow-up Tales of the Empire, with three-episode stories for eventual Imperial Magistrate and Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and Jedi-turned-Inquisitor Barriss Offee. An Elsbeth-focused clip has been released, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect in an unedited context.
The clip is set during the Clone Wars, significantly before Elsbeth met Grand Admiral Thrawn. In fact, it is the point when her people were wiped out by General Grievous and his forces. It’s the massacre of Dathomir, bringing her perspective on events that we saw play out from the outside during the fourth season of The Clone Wars. It’s a 44-second clip that sees Elsbeth fight back against Grievous with her weapons and stopping him from mowing more people down. The reason we’re seeing it from Elsbeth’s perspective now is that the character wasn’t introduced until over eight years later in The Mandalorian season 2, played by Diana Lee Inosanto there as well as here. These episodes are a major exploration of her backstory and how her quest for vengeance drove her into the Empire.
Matthew Wood continues in the role of General Grievous, while the other story chronicles Offee, voiced once again by Meredith Salenger reprising her role from The Clone Wars, as she does what she must to survive the rapidly changing galaxy. Additional Imperial figures with their voice actors returning include Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn and Jason Isaacs as the Grand Inquisitor, while features Rya Kihlstedt voices Lyn, also known as Fourth Sister, and Wing T. Chao voices Wing. Dave Filoni, creator of this series and many others since starting with The Clone Wars to become Lucasfilm CCO, is also the supervising director and an executive producer along with Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck. Josh Rimes serves as co-executive producer and Alex Spotswood is the senior producer. The series premieres May 4 on Disney+, and as the day approaches is looking to be the only release for the franchise on the day.
