Adult Swim Sets Premiere Date For 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force' Revival
The Plantasm has bloomed a new 5-episode season announced in January
Adult Swim has announced a premiere date for the revival of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, its twelfth overall season. Meatwad, Frylock, and Master Shake’s five brand new episodes will begin premiering on November 26 at 11:30 PM, with next-day releases on Max.
One of Adult Swim’s earliest original series, it was also one of their longest running. Beginning life as a Space Ghost Coast to Coast spinoff created by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro, the original 11 seasons ran from September 2001 to August 2015 for 139 episodes. After the first two seasons ran for 18 and 24 episodes, subsequent seasons tended to run for 10 to 13 episodes, though the final season, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever, dipped to single digits at 9 episodes. This also indicates that after four seasons of title changes, with Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1, Aqua Something You Know Whatever, and Aqua TV Show Show, it reverts to its original title. The spark of new Hunger Force was kindled by last November’s direct-to-video film Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm. It was the first of three DTV Adult Swim films, followed by The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart and Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar, released this past July. Maiellaro and Willis write, produce, and direct the season. The official description reads:
"Aqua Teen Hunger Force" is back to make television watchable again, and to fill your empty, content-starved lives with a magical season 12! Don't call it a comeback! Even though by all accounts it seems to be just that. It's a micro-itty-bitty-mini season, five brand new episodes of attention-whittling stupidity - but don't worry, the laugh-per-episode density is far higher than anything else you willingly agree to place before your swollen, encrusted eyes. The new season picks up where we left off in 2015, as Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad have returned to solve all of life's modern issues, and Carl returns because he can't sell his crappy house because he lives next door to food. Look for your favorite trio of "detectives" to go head-to-head with A.I. appliances, join an apocalyptic fitness cult, and search for friendship through ancient Egyptian pyramid schemes. In the end, all problems shall be solved, and all brains shall be melted. Did Adult Swim mess with a winning formula? You better believe it! Master Shake now has two all-new facial expressions..."Bemused" and "Lips Pursed in Thought"! And Shake can close his hands now, as if to hold things! Also, Frylock is sixty stories high and Meatwad bounces to get around. Tune in to see if we're telling the truth!
Aqua Teen Hunger Force stars Willis as Meatwad and neighbor Carl, Dana Snyder as Master Shake, and Carey Means as Frylock. Guest stars will include Eric Bauza, Brian Cox, Dan Fogler, Maurice LaMarche, and Gary Anthony Williams.
With the November 26 start date and 11:30 PM timeslot, Aqua Teen Hunger Force will ride its new season with the seventh to tenth episodes of Rick and Morty season seven, which just began this past Sunday. Aqua Teen’s season will then end the following week, Christmas Eve December 24. Check out the new image released with the announcement.
